Silkie hens are a charming, ornamental breed renowned for their fluffy, fur-like plumage and incredibly docile, friendly personalities, making them excellent, easy-to-tame pets. Known for their unique appearance—including black skin, bones, and five toes—they are notoriously broody, often acting as dedicated foster mothers.

Polish hens are instantly recognizable by their massive, fluffy crests of feathers that often cover their eyes, earning them a reputation as the “showgirls” of the poultry world. Though named “Polish,” they likely originated in the Netherlands and are cherished more for their ornamental beauty and comical personalities than for high egg production.

Pekin Bantam hens are incredibly docile, friendly, and round little “feathered footballs,” making them ideal, affectionate pets for small gardens and children. Known for their heavily feathered feet and “true bantam” status (no large version), they are charming, low-roosting foragers that won’t ruin your lawn.
